“Elmo Makes Music” with Play Zone October 25 – 28 #Nola

Guess which loveable red monster is coming to New Orleans? Elmo is Coming to Town!

My kids have always enjoyed going to see Sesame Street Live when they were younger. In fact since our kids are about 4-5 years apart, as parents we have seen many shows over the years. MY loved seeing our children’s faces light up as the lights would go dim and the music would begin. Those are memories that will be etched in our children’s heart as well as ours for many years.

Are you interested in taking your furry monster to see Elmo? If you check out the Ticketmaster Site for more information on times and locations. You can also save $3.00 per ticket by following this link and using the promo code: USF

Want to know more about “Elmo Makes Music” w/ Play Zone?
Mark your calendar for a musical event like no other-monsters making music! Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Big Bird and all their Sesame Street friends are taking to the stage to share their love of music in Sesame Street Live “Elmo Makes Music.”

Jenny, an enthusiastic new music teacher, arrives on Sesame Street only to discover that her instruments are missing. Jenny’s new Muppet friends quickly come to the rescue and discover ‘instruments’ they never knew existed…rubber duckies, trash can lids and even cookie jars. Elmo and friends teach children that everyone can make and enjoy beautiful music together.

Adults will hear music they’ll recognize and enjoy sharing with children, such as “The Hustle,” “You Should Be Dancing” and “Rockin’ Robin.” “Elmo Makes Music” features nearly two dozen songs, including classics that children will love to sing along with such as “C Is for Cookie” and “The Alphabet Song.”

What was your favorite Sesame Street Character as a child?

Soaring High in the Sky w/ Shaun White Supply Co. #ShaunWhiteSupplyCo #Cbias

My son is a typical boy that if something has a wheel on it, he LOVES it! But since his nickname is “Crash” (not kidding see pic below) we are bound to find him running into something, destroying household property or even worse injuring himself! He is a boy and inevitably we can not keep him in a bubble (he would find a way to destroy it anyway). So as doting parents, we encourage our son to enjoy the excitement & adrenaline rush of many outdoor sports including skateboarding.

We started our son a few years ago with a small skateboard. Nothing too pricey, just something we was able to balance himself on while he learned to flip and perform tricks. As the months went on, he became pretty good at it. Since he is only 8 years old, safety is always a huge concern for us. Our son was not quite 4 years old when he broke his wrist jumping out of the cargo trailer connected to our riding lawnmower. Six weeks of his short life and already wearing a cast. If anything it made him cautious of what he is able to do and what he should restrict himself with, but that doesn’t stop him from having fun.

Since he was being cautious and loved to practice we decided to get him a new skateboard. Luckily for us our local Walmart had a great selection of skateboards. My son instantly gravitated to the Shaun White Supply Co. I couldn’t blame the boy, the designs on the skateboards were pretty awesome. No need for added stickers when the Shaun White Skateboards already had an amazing look to them. The price was right so we decided to get it for him.

But you know what? My 12 year old daughter was equally impressive on the skateboard. It’s no surprise that our daughter is pretty fearless. I guess anything a boy can do she can do better! They both enjoyed having some backyard fun together and seeing who can do the best tricks. But after seeing some of Shaun White Supply Co. Youtube Videos, there is no comparison!!

My kids may not be X Games ready just yet but you never know, they may be soaring in the skies one day!

You can find more information on Shaun White Supply Co. on Twitter & on Facebook. Make sure to check out the 10/28 Walmart ad for full Shaun White Supply Co. Skateboarding details. Christmas is coming don’t forget to start thinking ahead

Compasionate, Curious & Confident: My Daughter is #DoveInspired

My oldest daughter Sarah will turn 12 this month. As much as I get weepy thinking about those days when she needed me for basic survival needs, I know that these next few years are so important in the kind of woman she becomes. Every morning I tell both my children “Be Nice & Work Hard”. What a proud Mamma I am knowing that they do their best and most of all are kind to others while doing it.

For 5 years my daughter & I were apart of Girl Scouts. We had so many wonderful memories & experienced so many adventures with her troop. Our main goal in being a Girl Scout Troop Leader was to help guide the girls to be curious and confident in any adventure life took them on. We wanted the girls in our troop to reach their full potential and to overcome any fears they may have in themselves and their abilities to do the best job they can possibly do. We wanted them to ask questions, but also be able to find the answers on their own as their life journey took place.

I am so proud that Dove was apart of their journey in finding confidence in themselves and harvesting high self esteem in many Girl Scout Troops. Dove has reached over 9 million girls with self-esteem programming & workshops so far together we can reach their goal of 15 million by 2015. In the third annual Dove Self-Esteem Weekend, a kick-off event in New York is set to spark a national conversation called “Let’s Talk”. It is an opportunity for  Dove partners organizations, Girl Scouts of the U.S.A, Girls Inc, and Boys & Girls Clubs, to join in a silent march to Times Square. All women have the opportunity to create a good dialogue between girls in order to enhance their self-esteem and to inspire them to reach their full potential while building their self-esteem. Dove believes beauty should be a source of confidence not anxiety and it can start with us, their mothers, sisters, aunts, grandmothers, friends and teachers. We can start with the conversation about beauty and help them be comfortable & confident using the word to describe themselves.

My daughter is not involved with Girl Scouts this year, but being a compassionate, curious & confident young girl is always going to be with her. I know that I continue encouraging my daughter to “Work Hard, Be Nice”. If she can keep it up, I will always be a proud Mami’!

Saving Money While on Vacation #Travel #Tourism #Family

When your going on vacation the last thing you want to worry about is “How much are we spending?” But it’s something that we HAVE to consider.

We make a budget for our Hotel, Cabin, etc first. Then we consider the location and create a budget. We allocate from that budget an amount that we will spend on traveling there..i.e gas or in some families cases airfare, taxi cabs, train, etc. The left over amount is our final budget to spend.

One way we save money is point saving sites like MyPoints & Swagbucks. They are great ways to earn gift cards all year. I save my points and redeem them for places like Subway, gas gift cards, and even hotel points. I generally use them solely on food for our traveling pit-stops. On our last vacation we ate at Subway going to our destination and coming home from our desintation for FREE!! It was quick, a healthier option, and the price was right.

I also use online hotel reservations sites like or Priceline to book my hotel. The only bad thing about that is that you must prepay in advance especially if your naming your own price. They do have insurance you can buy, but generally your out of luck if you have to cancel a trip.

If I am booking a hotel online and have never visited the establishment before, I go to sites like Trip Advisor and search previous guest’s reviews to get a general idea of what I want and don’t want. I also look to see if the hotel has Continental Breakfast & free parking because this will save your family money in the long run.

I also refer to Ebay and see if anyone is selling tickets or Gift Cards to a popular tourist location. For instance, if I am going to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, I would see if anyone is listing their Dollywood tickets, or Wonderworks tickets that they were not able to use. Many visitors purchases tickets in advance and then don’t find the time to visit the destination. Or they may purchases Water-park tickets, only to see it rained the whole weekend they were visiting. I have purchased Aquarium tickets, Dollywood tickets, and even Ripley’s tickets for a fraction of the cost I would have spent if I purchased them via their website, or once in town.

Another thing I do is bring snack type foods, juice packs, soft drinks & water with us on our trips. not only is it good for traveling to and from your destination, but it’s great to tuck in your vacation backpack while visiting. A zip-lock storage bag of Goldfish or grapes can hold any child over until you leave for a less expensive venue.

Also, we always have 1 nice meal per day. Somewhere we don’t look at prices and just enjoy. In order to do that, we may have a light lunch. Or have an amazing Lunch somewhere, but eat a light dinner. Bypass paying $6 for a slice of cheesecake somewhere and take your kids to Baskin Robbins instead. You will be surprise how much 4 sundaes at a restaurant will cost you!

Also check Groupon in other states/cities and see what deals they may have in your vacation destination in the coming months. If you know your going to Houston this summer, see what they have to offer a few months in advance. You can save big $$$ by stocking up on restaurant gift certificates way in advance.

Either way you save money, just be smart about your vacation. No one wants to come home, broke & full of credit card debt!

How do you save money for your family while on vacation?

New Post: Playing Hide & Seek Where Am I? #Brandcation 4 #PigeonForge #Travel #Tourism

Guess where I am?

I’ll give you 3 hints:
1. Beautiful & Historic Landscapes within the U.S
2: Top Family Travel Destination
3. Hello…Dolly!

I know, the last one really did give it away. But yes, I’m on my way (or in transit) to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. I love the Smokey Mountains for various reasons, but we don’t just enjoy ourselves there…My Family LOVES it!! Loves it so much we spend almost every Thanksgiving Week there. Poor me though, I’m going without my children or husband!!! Sad & Happy at the same time doesn’t even sum up my feelings. We have so many memories in East Tennessee with my family but I am looking forward to making new memories with some of my favorite Mom Bloggers at Brandcation 4 in Pigeon Forge!! That’s right, goodbye family, hello blogging pals!

Not only am I going to some of my favorite places in Tennessee, but I will be heading to a few new adventures I have yet to test out in the Pigeon Forge area. Some of the tourist attractions I will be visiting Dollywood, Dixie Stampede, Hollywood Wax Museum in Pigeon Forge, Titanic Museum, Lunberjack Fued, Country Tonite. Okay, if your not jealous yet, we are staying in an amazing cabin from Cabin Fever Cabins. The cabin is so amazing, we’re not going to want to leave!!

So, I will miss my little family but the great news is I’m going again this November just in time for Thanksgiving 2012. I feel a little better, but until then. I’ll be back in the Bayou soon enough.

Family Movie Night w/ The Avengers Blu-Ray/DVD/Graphic Novel Combo Pk #Cbias #MarvelAvengersWMT

We love the fact that our children are getting older. One reason is our family movie night doesn’t revolve around around adults wearing stuffed costumes or or animated characters singing every 5 minutes. Although we still love animated movies, the storyline are a little more appealing to adults as well as children nowadays. Marvel Avengers is a perfect fit for our growing family. There’s humor, action, and characters my husband & I have enjoyed since we were kids. A few months ago my husband & I took our 2 children to see Marvel Avengers at the theater. We went opening night and had a BLAST!! As a matter of fact, we also saw the Iron Man Franchise & Thor on opening night as well. The movie was so action packed but when the movie was over, my kids were left hanging knowing that the newest Avengers will be phenomenal!!

In order to hold the kiddies over until the newest Marvel Avengers gets released, I managed to purchase The Marvel Avengers DVD Blu-ray Graphic Novel Combo pack on Tuesday September 25th from Walmart. But The Avengers & Walmart have to take the buying experience to the next level by creating a new app called The Avengers Augmented Reality App. The Avengers app can be downloaded to your IPad, IPhone or Android phone while shopping at Walmart. Your shopping experience will be fun and exciting by triggering special activities & games that can only be used from downloading the App.

My son is a huge Marvel Fan!! In fact, his clothing wardrobe revolves around video game characters, sports, and Marvel Super Hero Characters like all The Avengers in the newly released film. So it’s Family Movie Night at our home and The Avengers are our special guest! The best part about buying the Marvel Avengers DVD Blu-ray Graphic Novel Combo pack is that at $24.95 we can also add a Marketside Pizza from Walmart in the deli cases.

If your interested in more Marvel fun for your family, make sure to check out Marvel’s Facebook & Twitter Pages. Also, we can find out more info on The Avengers Augmented Reality App by either downloading the App directly to your device. Make sure to follow the hastag: MarvelAvengersWMT on twitter to find more information on Marvel Avengers DVD Blu-ray Graphic Novel Combo sold exclusively at Walmart. Check out my Google + Story for more pics & Marvel Fun!

Feeling Overwhelmed? 5 Top Tips to Create Organized Chaos

You know that saying “Burning the Candle on Both Ends“, well the candle didn’t just burn, it exploded, incinerated and turned into ash. I’m a very calm person. During a work break, I told a co-worker that although my full-time position is hectic, I really consider it the slowest part of my day. For 8 hours, I know I’m focused on the single task of trying to organize chaos. And for 8 hours of each day, that is all I do. By the time my 8 hours is completed (hopefully just 8 hours) I know that my job is complete and I leave my shift with nothing that needs to be needs to be addressed. But then I go more CHAOS!

I think it’s pretty ironic that my blog tag line reads: “Organized Chaos at it’s Finest”. Organizing someone’s life is complicated. There is always something that needs to be done, something that you would like to get done, and finally something you dream about doing. So how can you do all three? I’m sorry, but you don’t. You can not do it all. Someday you might be able to, but expecting to do it all is not only pointless, but not realistic.

So what is a busy woman to do? Between kids, extended family, work, home responsibilities, church, etc. we have way too much going on.

Here are my 5 Top Tips for Creating Organized Chaos

1. Budget your time as much as you budget your money (if not more)
Create a general outline of your week with your family (and partner). Everyone needs to pitch in. The days of having all the time in the world is now as common as seeing unicorns in the forest. I like to talk with my husband every evening about what is in store for our family for the next day. Seriously, it is that busy. If the whole family is on the same page, you will feel the stress start to lessen as the week progresses.

2. Prioritize, Prioritize, Prioritize
I honestly I do not know one person who has nothing to do during the day. Don’t feel overwhelmed by seeing a large basket of clothes. Do 1 load to make it through the next day and focus on something else. For me, I know that I have housework to do at home. But going to my son’s football practice is far more rewarding then having a clean bathroom that day.

3.Forget about the Mommy Wars
Does it really matter anymore if your are a SAHM or a working outside the home mom? I don’t care, and you shouldn’t either. Do what is best for your family. Don’t feel guilty for the choice you make to home school versus “traditional” school. Life is too precious to worry about someone else’s choice or to defend your own. Save your energy and enjoy the choice you made.

4. Don’t Sink, Swim but if your drowning ask for a life raft!

Your friends and family WANT to help! I promise, no one will hold it over your head for asking for a favor. Laundry could have exploded in my living room and I would rather help my friend by watching her children for a few hours so she can have time to visit her mother in the hospital. Community supersedes individual goals.

5. Make life easier by finding creative tips and sharing with others
The other day my friend mentioned a Scheduling App that has helped her family schedule have more organization and allowed the whole family to see their week at a glance. She shared it with me and I found it also to be useful. Sharing tips or short cuts can make a huge difference in a family. I want to take it one step forward by sharing not just hits, but misses as well. I love to hear parenting fails. Ha!! Seriously, we all make mistakes and sometimes sharing our mistakes as well as our winning moments can make us smile. Something like this is perfect for the woman that seems to have it all together. I love knowing she made a major goof and is real enough to share it with me.

Being a woman is hard. We all work so hard for the people in our lives that matter most. We don’t receive trophies or ribbons in parenting or marriage. Our final outcome results relies on our happiness in our family and within ourselves.

How do you keep from feeling overwhelmed in maintaining “Organized Chaos”?

Online Child Behavior Clinic- Finding Ways to Treat & Give Parental Confidence

For many children across the country, a new school year has resumed. Returning to the classroom is always a new adventure in a child’s life. But with that can also come obstacles. As children continue to grow and experience new life challenges, some children struggle in specific behavior areas. New behavior issues can appear out of no where and create family disturbances. As parents, many of us have struggled with helping our children overcome these specific behavior problems. Sometimes we reach out to friends, family members, and possibly our school educators for help. But since every child is different, finding solutions for those problems can vary depending on the child & also the behavior problem.

At 3 years old, I brought my son to our local school board so he can be evaluated for possible speech delays. I knew he was behind in the speech department, but what I didn’t realize was that they were also evaluating my son for Autism. By the end of the evaluation I found out my son demonstrated 4 of the 6 (minimum needed) criteria that would classify him having Autism Spectrum Disorder. The social worker explained to me that they felt the 4 items he demonstrated are more behavioral and that in time (and with treatment) those behaviors would soon develop & improve. I was fortunate in that I had several friends in the medical field that would give me the tools and the technology I needed to help my son develop in the areas he lacked. I scoured the internet, reached out to other mothers, and solicited help from friends in the medical for advice whenever I could. What I needed was treatment that was affordable, in my area & flexible. Someone that I could use as a resource as a parent, as well as individual treatment for my son.

The Online Child Behavior Clinic specializes in child behavior management whether the problem is social behavior, school performance, or child/family health. There are so many advances in internet child therapy which allows Online Child Behavior Clinic to provide effective, affordable parental consultation. In addition to individual therapy, The Online Child Behavior Clinic also offers group therapy or a “buddy system” where up to six moms and/or dads on a budget can get together and make up an Online Clinic parent group. They can all meet with me online video at the same time for a drastic reduction in cost of the program for each person. They can learn from each other, support each others’ efforts, and share the experience of positive family change together. The Online Child Behavior Clinic can offer therapy to parents & children like Depression, School Learning Problems, Emotional Distrubanaces, Impulse Control and much more. You can find a full list of services provided HERE

For me, the idea of online therapy is a great resource for a busy family. The ability to use Skype as a tool to gain a personal face-to-face conversation is a huge convenience factor. You can have sessions in the privacy of your own home or office without it becoming a distraction to our everyday responsibilities. Parents will gain the confidence they need to help their child overcome specific behavior issues, as well as the ability to handle situations that may come in the future. Average treatment is around 3 months which can equal to about 6 sessions. This creates affordability for any family without a long term commitment and financial burden for your family.

My son made 8 years old this past August. Although he was diagnosed with profound speech delay at 3 years old, the behaviors he exhibited back then took quite some time to manage. There were tears when I thought I wouldn’t be able to make a difference and smiles when we made a small step in the right direction. Everyday was a new challenge, but those moments brought my son (and my family) closer every step of the way.

If you know someone that may be experiencing the need for child behavior treatment and resources for their family, please let them know about the  Online Child Behavior Clinic. Proper treatment can help a family much quicker than it took me & my son to find our own peace.

WHY HAVE KIDS? A New Mom Explores the Truth About Parenting and Happiness by Jessica Valenti

A New Mom Explores the Truth About
Parenting and Happiness
by Jessica Valenti

Deciding to become a mother should be a well thought out decision. The stress that society places in the parenting roles and which decisions we as mothers make are never easy questions to answer. But with all the demands, issues like “Mommy Guilt” or even worse, “Mommy Wars” why do some women even decide to have children? Author Jessica Valenti takes on these questions in her new book “Why Have Kids which became available September 4th, 2012. Jessica Valenti tackles controversial questions and with brutal honesty answers them how we can bring the joys back in parenting and take away societies expectations on us.

Available in print & in digital copy for your favorite E-Reader, “This is a book about how the American ideal of parenting doesn’t match the reality of our lives, and how that incompatibility is hurting parents and children,” says Valenti. “The truth about parenting is that the reality of our lives needs to be enough. Seeking out an ideal that most of us can never reach is making us, and our kids, miserable.” The pursuit of perfection in pregnancy and parenting is giving American mothers a guilt complex and taking the joy out of parenthood. Valenti reveals the disconnect between parents’ hopes and the day-to-day reality of raising children and argues that while debating whether or not to breastfeed means we care about parenting, we really should really focus on raising our children as a community exercise. Forming communities of action rather than communities of judgment will help mothers and parents support each other.”

Jessica Valenti is the author of three previous books, including The Purity Myth: How America’s Obsession with Virginity is Hurting Young Women. She is also the founder of, which the Columbia Journalism Review called “head and shoulders above almost any writing on women’s issues in mainstream media.” Jessica – called one of the top 100 inspiring women in the world by the Guardian – speaks at universities and organizations in the U.S. and abroad about feminism, activism, and media. She lives with her family in Boston, but remains a New Yorker at heart.
