My son is a typical boy that if something has a wheel on it, he LOVES it! But since his nickname is “Crash” (not kidding see pic below) we are bound to find him running into something, destroying household property or even worse injuring himself! He is a boy and inevitably we can not keep him in a bubble (he would find a way to destroy it anyway). So as doting parents, we encourage our son to enjoy the excitement & adrenaline rush of many outdoor sports including skateboarding.
We started our son a few years ago with a small skateboard. Nothing too pricey, just something we was able to balance himself on while he learned to flip and perform tricks. As the months went on, he became pretty good at it. Since he is only 8 years old, safety is always a huge concern for us. Our son was not quite 4 years old when he broke his wrist jumping out of the cargo trailer connected to our riding lawnmower. Six weeks of his short life and already wearing a cast. If anything it made him cautious of what he is able to do and what he should restrict himself with, but that doesn’t stop him from having fun.
Since he was being cautious and loved to practice we decided to get him a new skateboard. Luckily for us our local Walmart had a great selection of skateboards. My son instantly gravitated to the Shaun White Supply Co. I couldn’t blame the boy, the designs on the skateboards were pretty awesome. No need for added stickers when the Shaun White Skateboards already had an amazing look to them. The price was right so we decided to get it for him.
But you know what? My 12 year old daughter was equally impressive on the skateboard. It’s no surprise that our daughter is pretty fearless. I guess anything a boy can do she can do better! They both enjoyed having some backyard fun together and seeing who can do the best tricks. But after seeing some of Shaun White Supply Co. Youtube Videos, there is no comparison!!
My kids may not be X Games ready just yet but you never know, they may be soaring in the skies one day!
You can find more information on Shaun White Supply Co. on Twitter & on Facebook. Make sure to check out the 10/28 Walmart ad for full Shaun White Supply Co. Skateboarding details. Christmas is coming don’t forget to start thinking ahead

Little League Football is big in many areas. Although cost is always an issue, many parents manage to put aside a small amount money for their son’s (or daughter’s) opportunity to play the game. In addition to the initial league costs, many parents have to also purchase additional practice jerseys, practice pants, game pants, socks, cleats, and items like chin strapss and mouth guards. But after a few weeks of after-school practices what can parents anticipate they will experience as Football Mom’s or Dad’s?
Although you have already experienced a few weeks of after school practices, you & your child will devote many weekends at your local football park or possibly even travel to other parks if that is the case. If you have other children not in football, this will be very difficult as you may need one child to me at ABC School, while your Football Child has to be at a game for 7:15 a.m the same day. Work schedules are not even factored in, so make sure you check with your employer & your football schedule to see if the 2 can possibly be scheduled apart from another.
Aside from the football expenses don’t forget that many ball parks have entrance fees associated with them. Home games can also have fees attached to them. Adults in my local area cost anywhere from $2.00 to $4.00 per adult!! Either bring your own cooler with snacks & beverages or be ready to shell out some extra funds for ball park food. Who can resists a chili cheese dog at a football game?
It’s Not the Coach, It’s the Game:
Coaches can be loud, but their voice is amplified throughout Game Day. As a Football Mom or Football Dad, you have to understand that the football helmets can muffle a coach’s instruction to a player. Also players and coaching staff can get very emotional and passionate so their reactions may seem harsh, but in that moment, they are probably not even aware of what they are doing or what they may sound like.
Your Child Will Make A Mistake:
Don’t become one of those parents that are vocal about every other child’s mistakes, but not acknowledge your own child’s. Be a support system to other parents, as well as their child. Both parents & child can feel pressure if they make a mistake on the field. The only way a child will learn is if they make a mistake. The key is being able to correct the mistake in the future. Try to keep your facial and vocal expressions to a minimum when a team isn’t doing as well as they could be. We love when we are winning but screaming to have a child replaced by another child is not good sportsmanship. Color commentary can be heard by other parents and problems can always arise.
Is He Hurt??
Children will get hurt, but they will also bounce back. Practice safety techniques with you child and always encourage your child to tell you how he is feeling, even when not playing football. The most important way to prepare your child for getting hit & tackled is to have him attend practice!! I can’t stress this enough. If they don’t practice with team members, they will not be able to take hits from a complete stranger. Go to Practice & don’t make excuses, it’s for their safety!!
Despite being in the midst of severe heat, the kids are back in school and planning all sorts of upcoming events in the next few months. Since I’m determine to be ahead of the game(a girl can try, right?), I have decide to start my Halloween shopping early. Locally, our costume selection is very limited. We either pay top dollar for a well made costume, or a decent price for something that is bound to fall apart the first time my kids wear their Halloween costumes. This year I decided to look online in advance for a combination of both quality & affordability.
Since my 8 year old son is pretty easy to gauge in size, I decided to start with him. We went through a few websites and went to CostumeSuperCenter.com for our 2012 Halloween Costume. We found a costume that he liked, and a price I can live with. For $26.99 we were able to get the Men’s Deluxe Avatar Jake Sully Costume. The costume includes: Jacket with attached shirt, pants and mask. The only additional item I would need to buy is the spear and at $10.99 it was something that we can afford to splurge on.
We received our package within 7-10 days and came with all items that were listed. One of the first things I noticed was the quality of the mask. Most masks that are included with many costumes, are very cheaply made. This costume however is made of good quality materials. To me, it resembled the quality of a mask you would purchase additionally versus a mask that was included with the costume. The mask was very detailed, coloring was well blended, and authentic for a Halloween costume.
Next the jacket with attached shirt & pants were made of Lycra & Polyester. The costume has enough thickness that you will not have to worry about bracing the cold elements this October. In fact, since I live in Southeast Louisiana, my son will probably be able to wear shorts under his costume. The stitching was lined properly and doesn’t show possible unraveling after 1 use. I purchased a standard size costume in the Men’s Department for him. Most costumes run small and I was afraid that this costume will be the same, but really it is fairly true to size. My 12 year old and she is 5’ft 3″inches. I think anyone over 5′ ft 7″in will need to order the XL costume merely for the length.
One of the things I like about CostumeSuperCenter.com is that they allow for not only costume exchange, but they also pay for shipping BOTH ways!! You can also receive free shipping for any order over $50 using a coupon code as well. They have a huge variety of popular trendy Halloween costumes for 2012. From Monster High to Avengers, you’ll be able to find a costume your child will love & a price you can afford. Don’t forget to remind your children of Halloween Safety Tips this year.
I am halfway through my 2012 Halloween Costume shopping & it’s not even September. I definitely feel one step ahead of the game. Now if I can remember to decorate this year, I will be surprised!!
What are your kids planning for their Halloween Costume?

Hotel Transylvania by Sony Pictures is coming out in theaters on September 28. My family loves to watch animated films at the movies and this looks like a movie the whole family will love! The story takes place in a lavish 5 Stake Resort where monsters can live it up and be themselves without human interference. Dracula has invited several monster friends to help him celebrate his daughter Mavis’s 118 birthday. The event is planned to be exceptional fun, but what happens when an “ordinary guy” stumbles into the picture??
Film Stars Include: Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, David Spade, CeeLo Green, Jon Lovitz
The video above is a spoof on the song Call Me Maybe & is called “Call Me Mavy” because Dracula’s daughter is named Mavy. My kids started dancing when I played this video for them. It definitely caught their attention but I’m also excited to hear some of my favorite comedic actors in the movie. If you get a chance, visit Hotel Transylvania website where you can check out other videos, coloring pages, and games galore for the kiddies.
For more information you can visit Hotel Transylvania on Facebook, or use the #HotelT hashtag on Twitter, Tumblr or Instagram.
Who is one of your favorite comedic actors in this movie??
For me there are so many in this movie, but I’m going to say Adam Sandler is hilarious!!
One thing we are all to familiar with in our home is night-time growing pains. With my husband being 6’ft 5″in tall and myself being over 5′ ft 9″ tall, our children are enduring growing pains especially at bed-time. My 7 year old (almost 8) is right at 5 foot tall and wears a size 7 men shoe. The poor “little” guy still speaks, thinks, and acts like a like boy unfortunately his body is easily the size of an average 10 year old.
Since his thighs and calves continue to give him pain during bedtime, I decided that the Bed Buddy®: The Bed Buddy Bear may be able to give some comfort during the distressful time. The Bed Buddy®: The Bed Buddy Bear provide warmth and comfort to soothe aches and pains. Made with 100% natural materials, it is the latest in ThermaTherapy® product. By using the microwave to start the warming process, the Bed Buddy Bear can reduce pain associated with arthritis, fibromyalgia, back problems, ear aches, tooth aches and stiff necks.
I decided to put it through the test for my son’s growing pains at night. I placed the Bed Buddy Bear in the microwave, started the heating process, and gave it to my son one evening when he was in pain. I simply tucked him back in bed, handed him the bear and the bear helped sooth his pain long enough to allow him to fall back asleep. It was easy to use and comforting for my son. I went back about 45-50 minutes after giving him the Bed Buddy Bear and found that the bear was STILL warm. It keeps the temperature for a continued 1 hour which I was pleasantly surprised by.
The next morning, my son woke up with his new friend but more importantly had a good nights sleep with the help of his Bed Buddy Bear®.
The Bed Buddy Warming Bear is available online and at select retailers, independent pharmacies and drug stores for an MSRP of $19.99. The Bed Buddy Bear® can also be used during hibernation in the freezer to create a cold pack for fever relief and to relax restless sleepers. You can find more information on the Bed Buddy Bear and other Carex Health Brands Products by visiting their website: www.carex.com and by visiting their Facebook Page.

I’m so excited about this upcoming film. The trailer of OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL was recently debuted at the San Diego Comic-Con which hits theaters March 8, 2013!
Let me know if you have read the books & if your excited about this film. In my home, I love anything that we can watch together as a family.
Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot–fame and fortune are his for the taking–that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity–and even a bit of wizardry–Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.
